- imranq 3y agoI can definitely see this being useful for work and school, but not sure if I would use a foldable for everyday tasks. Casing these phones seems like a challenge

- expertentipp 3y agoLadies and gentlemen, phones with foldable screens are the new "3D TVs". Good news is within 5 years it will be over. To compensate enormous electronic waste we will pay more for air travel.
- factorialboy 3y agoAlternate take, this will eat into the tablet market. Why own a phone AND a tablet? When one foldable does both?
- dzink 3y ago$2000 might be better spent on a phone that doesn’t have an operating system scheduled to expire 2-3 years from now. Every iPhone I’ve owned has had multiple lifetimes with family after the 3-4 years of use I might get out of it. Androids are scheduled to expire.

- dzink 3y agoThat should be 5 years from when you buy it. Planned obsolescence is not worth the same price as a product that will last 10 years.

- rad_gruchalski 3y agoNot many people. But I'm using an iphone 8 from 2017 and it's still going strong. It was €800 when I purchased it. It probably has another 2 or 3 years in it.
- dzink 3y agoI have not had a dead Apple device and I’ve been an Apple owner since 2007. Old phones/laptops are used for testing, entertainment or temp phone for the kids, given to relatives, used as travel devices, used by visiting family from abroad, etc. 2 have lost Wifi access due to damage and they can still be used as cameras or typewriters by family. It’s absolutely mind boggling to me that deliberate software expiration should ever be a reason to throw out a hardware device. Don’t ever tell me an organization that does that should be admired for quality engineering.

- rtkwe 3y agoIt's price matched with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 that's a direct form factor competitor. There are some more mid market competitors but they're not on their own out there at 1800 USD.
- soared 3y agoThe most expensive iPhone is $1699, which is a 14 pro max with a whopping 1 TB of storage. With 128gb it’s only $1099. I agree, seems pretty aggressive.
- epolanski 3y agoDoes the iphone doubles in size and lets you carry around a minitablet? If not it's a pointless comparison. A 1000$ iphone is closer to a 300$ pixel 6 than the pixel fold.

- bombcar 3y agoA $1000 iPhone leaves enough left over for an iPad (even pro, almost). Of course, that's not directly comparable, but it's notable.

- ollien 3y agoI understand the laws of physics are in effect, but the big thing keeping me from even remotely considering a foldable is the durability of the internal screen. The newer Galaxy Fold's have some sort of plastic/glass composite, but it still scratches super easily, and it's not serviceable at all.

- alexchantavy 3y agoHad a Samsung zflip 4 where the screen stopped working after 1 month and their customer service gave me the run around and tried to claim I damaged it - thank god I took pictures documenting the whole process. I probably wasted a work week’s worth of time on emails and phone calls related to this nonsense. Will never consider Samsung again. They do this weird 3rd party support partnership thing with asurion where they’ll tell you to go to asurion to get the phone fixed but then refuse to honor the diagnostics performed by asurion because they’re a 3rd party, which makes for an awful customer experience. For a $1000 phone you would expect much better support. All this to say I don’t have confidence in the foldable screen tech, and I have even less confidence with any company that has 3rd party support arrangements with asurion (which google does too)

- pedrocr 3y agoThat would fix this particular post but Google has had this problem for a decade now and it's not like they don't know how the web works. Turning a link to a specific product into a generic view into their store like nothing is wrong is just broken. They keep handicapping their device business with these policies and methods.

- aduitsis 3y agoFor some of us that are not in the US, this product doesn't even exist. 2023 and still somehow the Pixel doesn't sell in several countries in the EU.

- yuters 3y agoI'm left-handed but never had a pixel or a recent android phone. What is the problem exactly? Something about the index finger print vs the thumb?

- manningthegoose 3y agoI just don't understand who wants these foldable phones, especially at the $1799 price point. I guess a use case is wealthy frequent travelers who don't want a separate device with a larger screen to watch movies/videos on the go? Someone help me out here.
- edandersen 3y agoUntil someone actually sells an 8 inch OLED tablet, these are the only options on the market today for a small tablet with a good screen.
- SoylentYellow 3y agoOnly option right now is a Lenovo Y700. Not OLED, but it has a great looking 120 Hz screen, fast processor, and premium feel. However, it only comes in a Chinese version, so I ended up creating "unsecure" networks and accounts (Youtube, Reddit, etc) to use with it.
- jamincan 3y agoWho wants to watch a movie on a square screen though? I guess it would be better for browsing in most cases.
- screye 3y agoI've a Galaxy Fold 3 and now 4 for about 2 years now. It is my biggest cellphone QOL improvement since the Pixel mainstreamed AI photography in the first pixel. Best extra $400 spent per year or so.

- michelb 3y agoI may consider them at a much lower price-point and if they were much thinner, so not anytime soon :) My ideal is the Westworld style tablet, but that's sci-fi.

- coffeebeqn 3y agoI just spent $400 on a Ryzen 5650, 32GB RAM and 1TB NVMe. The screen sucks compared to my work MacBook (most do) but it’s faster and has more cores

- microtonal 3y agoThe Ryzen 5650 is certainly not faster than the base MacBook Air M2. The 5650 does 1848/7191 in Geekbench, M2 2560/9566. Heck, even the 2.5 years old M1 is faster at 2322/8243. I fell for the Ryzen laptop hype and bought one around the time of the M1 that was supposed to be about as fast as the M1. In practice it started throttling pretty fast and the performance was way worse than the M1. Also, the battery life was ~3 hours under normal workloads on Linux (with most power optimizations done) and ~6-7 hours on Windows. The price definitely can't be beat though. Even though a laptop with a 5650, 32GB RAM and 1TB SSD for $400 sounds really unbelievable? Those specs usually go for at least $1200. Do you have a link?
- coffeebeqn 3y agoI have an Intel MacBook. It does pale in comparison to the M-series. I bought it from eBay as “used, like new” and bought the memory and nvme myself for the best deals I could find (they’re cheap these days)
- danwee 3y agoFrom 1899 euros in Europe. Certainly, I don't really know who feels comfortable using a 2K euros device while walking down the street every single day. I would be so worried about it being lost, getting scratch or what not. Besides, it looks huge.

- thinkling 3y agoAll the deals where the device is free/cheap with a wireless subscription of at least 12 or 24 months are effectively all financing arrangements.
- nicoburns 3y agoWhile I can imagine purchasing one of those in the sense that I know they exist, I'm pretty much with the GP in that I can't imagine myself actually choosing to do so. I think this is partly because new phones are just crazy expensive these days, so I pretty much always buy a year-old model second hand. But also because I don't like being locked into such a contract (although to be fair, that last part is somewhat of a privilege in that I am able to afford to buy the phone up front)
- Clamchop 3y agoAt zero percent interest, it in effect reduces the price of the phone, so perhaps you should reconsider it.
- anonporridge 3y agoYou'd be dumb not to take 0% financing. Put the money you would have spent buying outright in a savings account yielding 4%.
- gundmc 3y agoI love my Z Fold 3 form factor a lot more than I thought I would. The one thing I've missed is the pure Google/Android software experience without the Samsung bloat from my old Pixel phone. This is very tempting, but given it's their first attempt and the steep price, I'll probably wait for the Fold 2 to improve on any growing pains.
- skyyler 3y agoPrediction: This is the prevailing opinion among people that would purchase it. It will have disappointing sales numbers and there will be no Fold 2.

- kibwen 3y agoApple's coming out with a foldable phone within a year or two, which will be more than enough to scare Google into continuing this form factor.
- rchaud 3y agoSamsung is doing all the heavy lifting in this market anyway. This Google offering doesn't even have a pressure sensitive screen for pen input! That alone justifies the price of a Galaxy Fold over this thing.

- csdvrx 3y agoI'm not a huge fan of Google, but if Graphene can be installed (and the bootloader unlocked), I would be interested! Foldable devices like the Lenovo X1 fold are very nice to work with "on the go": take a Bluetooth keyboard and your office is everywhere!
- dhruvmittal 3y agoReally looking forward to future generations of foldables when the price is closer to $1000 than $2000. I've had my Flip 3 for almost 2 years now and it's been a blast; I'm genuinely interested in the larger foldable size, but the price is still too steep for me.
- jclardy 3y agoYeah - I understand the technology is complex, but if you think about it you can buy a iPhone 14 Pro and an iPad Pro 11” for the same price as a single foldable. Maybe it is too soon for foldables, but usually “all in one” devices trend towards being cheaper than buying the devices seperately they are supposed to replace, since they are usually lesser versions of each device (IE a super thick normal phone, and a small, squarish tablet with a crease down the middle.)
- davemp 3y agoThe iPhone/iPad will also have 2-5x the lifespan of foldables too from what I’ve heard. Neat devices but not really pragmatic.
- caddemon 3y agoFoldables are emerging tech right now anyway, they're probably going to see way bigger improvements in other functionalities over the next 5 years than the iPhone has in the last 5 years. I think if you're buying a foldable at this stage you're probably not attached to keeping it more than 2-3 years in the first place. In the future I'm guessing their durability will also be much better.

- SXX 3y agoObviously Google want some reference Android devices that are not full of Samsung or chinese crapware. Regardless of marketshare they still release some decent devices. For those of us outside of Apple ecosystem Pixel 6a for $350 (with some recent discounts) is one of the best modern devices all around. Yeah you can certainly find something even cheaper, but again it will be loaded with tons of non-Google spyware.

- thinkling 3y agoYou can't look at the Google Store without signing in to a Google account? sigh EDIT: in Private Browsing mode I can access it, but in a normal browser tab it requires me to give my password.

- zdragnar 3y agoDo you have an expired session that it is trying to revalidate? You can buy things through the store using your Google account, so that'd be my main guess.
- TobyTheDog123 3y agoYeah that price point makes it an instant pass - In all honesty, phones, at least for me, have been reaching a point of diminishing returns. I upgraded from an iPhone 11 to an iPhone 14 recently, and the difference was practically nothing. I didn't think it was possible to experience buyer's remorse after waiting three whole generations, but here we are. I wouldn't be surprised if it's five years before a phone has some jaw-dropping feature that I just have to buy, and if these are the kinds of innovations Google is investing in, I might even say closer to a decade.
- robertlagrant 3y agoThe biggest upgrade I had a while ago was buying a OnePlus phone a few years ago and seeing how fast it charged. I stopped thinking about my phone battery. That's the last real innovation for me.
- netheril96 3y agoYour reasoning is flawed. iPhone 14 fits the same use case as iPhone 11, but Foldable fits a different use case than normal phones. You may find Foldable useless but that doesn’t make your reasoning any less flawed.

- kelnos 3y agoSomeone who wants a phone and a tablet, but doesn't want two devices, and doesn't want to have to lug around a tablet that doesn't fit in their pocket. If it wasn't so expensive, and I wasn't still skeptical of the durability of the folding tech, I would buy this. I don't have a tablet for the above reason, but would absolutely make use of something like this.
- kmac_ 3y agoLooks good and for foldable with guaranteed 5y support and clean system the price is ok-ish. But I'll pass, not available on my market.
- stilist 3y agoThe Live Translate video shows 'aqui' instead of 'aquí'. I don't know if that's an error the software actually makes, or if the person who composited the text into the video had the wrong spelling.
- JusticeJuice 3y ago$5 that was human error in post. Usually you'd have an animation made manually, not recorded from a simulator, then composite that onto the final shot. It's pretty hard to record screens without blowing out the dynamic range of the rest of the scene, to make them super crisp it's just easier to add it on later.

- GeekyBear 3y agoGiven that folding phones have a history of being fragile and Google has a history of dropping support for the devices they sell quickly, do they really expect a $1800 device to sell at a time when flagships that sell for half that much are not moving like they did a couple of years ago?

- gibspaulding 3y agoTyping this on a Pixel 2a running Android 12. It is out of support now, but that's not too shabby for a $300 phone from 2017.

- r00fus 3y agoYou know what I'd want? A foldable tablet. I'd love a mini or standard size tablet that can fold out like a newspaper into something with good screen size. Hell, it'd be great for e-ink also. But a phone? I mostly use it to call / send texts and want it pocket sized and durable.
- dirtyid 3y agoWhat happened to outward folding form factor without the extra screen? Foldable screens still not durable enough? Three screen foldable seems like such a dumb design to settle on. Ditto with aspect ratio with massive black bars when watching media.
- avidiax 3y agoNo one makes it but I would love a dual screen phone with e-ink on one screen. The aspect ratio might allow for always on playback controls and a dedicated area for subtitles which could be nice.
- dirtyid 3y agoThat sounds sick, or dual folding screen, eink outside to make nice custom skin.
- DiabloD3 3y agoYikes. Google hasn't magically figured out how to fix the problem with the screens failing after a few hundred bends; neither has Samsung, which is most likely their display supplier. On top of that, there is no viable market for a phone over $1200 (and, arguably, no market for over $1000, ask Apple how their sales have been going down since the peak in 2015); what were they even thinking? This is ridiculous even for a halo product.
- Jeff_Brown 3y agoA few hundred?! That's like a week of use. Does that happen a lot? Do we have a way of estimating the average number of folds a user can expect before failure?

- brookst 3y agoThe 200,000 figure isn't super meaningful unless they report average folds to failure and standard deviation. From that article, it could be that they test to 200,000 folds because at that point 99.6% have failed, and the 50% failure rate might be at 100,000. Or 20,000. Or 190,000. I don't think they're saying that 100% of phones will last to 200,000 folds. That would be a bold claim indeed.

- Already__Taken 3y agoif my phone is already 5.8 inches, who cares if it folds out. make it 3.5 and fold out for recipes and diagrams/notes. if I need a 7" display I'll have a 10" in a bag with the added battery pack and speakers it'll require anyway

- ChrisClark 3y agoFail? They are launching the Fold 5 in a couple months now. I'm still on the 3, I've had it for about 1.5 years and I use it every day. I love it, especially with the pressure sensitive pen. It's still working great, so I'll probably wait for the fold 6 or 7.
- cdibona 3y agoI have the fold 2 and I absolutely love it, been using it almost nonstop for a few years. When the 5 comes out I'll replace the 2 for it. The 2 is just showing some wear at the bend point on the screen, the flip I've replaced the protector once but it went smoothly at the Samsung store. I think the google/nexus/pixel fold looks nice, but the pixel reliability track record has been pretty grim, so maybe I'll give it an iteration or.... Nine before trying it out.

- elorant 3y ago1,8k. Yeah, right. For doing what exactly? Watching videos? I'd rather take a tablet, and a phone and still have money in the pocket. I just don't see the use case for these things. Microsoft also produced a foldable device and it tanked.
- typeofhuman 3y agoMy reaction too. I could buy a new Galaxy Tab S7 FE tablet and a refurbished MacBook Pro for that price!

- mettamage 3y agoI switched because of battery life and better camera. The better camera is mostly for fun. However, it also really helps with pictures on Tinder. I just got into a relationship again after a while. If I didn’t have the iPhone 12 mini, it might be the case that I had less traction on Tinder. Given my experience with it, I am fairly sure I’d have 20 to 50% of the matches I’d have now

- 2muchcoffeeman 3y agoYes, since the X I only get the cheaper iPhones. At least I know I can get 7-8 years of support for my phone so the price tag isn’t such a shock overall. But for a device that will be dropped in 3years?

- lostgame 3y agoI’m transgender, male to female; and going from a sidebag to carrying mainly just a purse has honestly been a blessing and a curse. I’m aware I could obviously still rock a sidebag as a woman, I just generally don’t; lol, and honestly the smaller format of a purse has its advantages, too.

- 8n4vidtmkvmk 3y agoI got a triangular backpack with a single strap that you can kind of swing around over you stomach so you can pull stuff out of it. It's handy if you don't have too much stuff but also don't want a satchel flapping into your thighs.
- lostgame 3y agoMy lesbian ‘husband’ who is considerably more masc-presenting than I, loves this. I’m finally almost sold on the concept of a MacBook Air, now that the performance vs. cost factor is there. I never used to see weight or size as a huge factor in hardware but I sure as hell do now.

- komali2 3y agoThey break lol. Don't do that. BTW also don't take your laptop onto the beach. It was only like 6 years ago that leaving your phone in the same room as a running shower was a risky gambit, not sure why we expect ip7 waterproofing on brand new tech.
- acdha 3y agoWe expect it because it’s better for how people actually use phones. Not having to worry about getting rained on, for example, is pretty awesome for anyone who doesn’t live in a desert. The dust part is more of a concern because that’s a lot harder to avoid than rain. For example, most people put phones in pockets or bags which not infrequently collect dust. A regression on that is bad for an ultra-premium device which needs a solid market to fund further R&D.

- gerash 3y agoI'm quite interested in a folding phone but at that price it needs to have the latest and greatest compute power. I'll wait for Pixel Fold 2
- StrangeATractor 3y agoI'd like foldables if they had two separate screens which acted as one, like a miniature laptop with an extra screen where the keyboard would be. The bendy display makes me think I'll wear it out pretty quickly. Pretty sure Microsoft did this for one of their recent devices.
- ThatPlayer 3y agoMicrosoft's Duo. LG have also done this with a dual screen case on the V60 (and other phones such as the Velvet). Too bad they don't make phones anymore, so I'll be keeping my V60 for a bit.
- 1024core 3y agoFunnily, at 7.6" (unfolded) it's less than an inch bigger than a Pixel 7a Pro (6.7"). Why go through this rigmarole of folding when you're barely adding much realestate? I guess that's why I'm not a VP at some BigCo.

- sophie_zrk 3y agoThe Pixel 7 Pro body is 162.9 x 76.6 mm, giving it an area of 12,478 mm^2. The Pixel Fold body is 139.7 x 158.7 mm, giving it an area of 22,170 mm^2. So the area of the folding phone is almost twice the size! This was surprising to me since, as you say, the diagonal lengths are similar. Of course, it's due to the Fold having a more square shape. Caveat: this is measuring the size of the phone itself, not the screens, since that was easier to find.
- syrrim 3y agoAn inch in aspect ratio is a relatively large change, considering it entails ~70% of an inch in both dimensions. It would be better to compare screen area or vertical and horizontal dimensions separately, to get a clear picture of the difference.
- flutas 3y agoYeah. 5.8" @ 17.4:9 (outer screen) = 13.73 sq in 7.6" @ 6:5 (inner screen) = 28.4 sq in For comparison to the Pro 6.7" @ 19.5 = 17.08in sq in
- jasmer 3y agoI don't trust google to 'complete' the entire product experience. Samsung is among the worst, Apple is the best and they are not perfect. A 'foldable screen' implies a lot of changes in usability and behaviour, most of these companies don't bother with the detail and therefore less than desired experiences. At least up to Pixel 4 even the alarm clock, merging calls, a bunch of small things felt very off. Apps were not consistent. That said, screen real estate is nice, if that's your thing and you are not price sensitive, it might work. Personally, I want a small, thin form factor with only a few apps max and I want it to be robust, always work, with extremely long battery life and for Google/Apple to not hoard all of my personal data.
- smoldesu 3y agoIronically, Google is one of the best hardware suppliers for de-Googled phones. The old Pixels are notoriously well-supported by alternative ROMs, and run the most well-hardened Android distributions on the planet. If you want a CalyxOS or GrapheneOS device, Google is practically your only option.
- rjh29 3y agoI'm just happy we have an alternative to Samsung in the folding space, because I cannot stand Samsung's OS or software.

- grishka 3y agoYep. As a small-ish person with small-ish hands, I suffer from having to use this pocket TV of a phone, but the Pixel 4a was the smallest Android phone money could buy in 2020.

- hug 3y agoI dream of a clamshell e-reader, with dual 7 or 8" screens, that reads in the traditional two-pages-at-a-time kind of book orientation. It seems a no brainer to me. It would keep the fragile e-ink substrate safe, while being more ergonomic and allowing you to have twice the screen real-estate without ending up with the terrible reading experience with too-long-lines that you get from current large-screen e-readers.
- kelnos 3y agoBack in 2009/2010 I worked for a startup that was doing something like that. The screens were a bit bigger (maybe 10" or 12"? can't remember), and they were LCDs, not e-ink. The device was heavy, but the intended market was college students who could read textbooks on it, and take notes directly on the book's pages with a stylus. (It also had a web browser and dedicated note-taking app, among other things.) The product's timing was off; the first iPad came out while we were still building it, which made it quite a bit less attractive, and it likely could be made much thinner and lighter today. (What really killed it was the founders' inability to secure digital rights from any textbook publishers... though arguably it would still have been a tough product to sell even without that obstacle.)

- jacooper 3y agoFirst grapheneOS compatible foldable! Other than that meh, phones are very limited, and I would rather invest in anything than spend my money on a (very finicky and unreliable) social media machine.

- toastal 3y agoNever should have left. My wired IEMs never asked for a firmware update, asked me to install an app, weren’t flaky like Bluetooth, and never stopped working because battery ran out. If you get a thick. braided detachable cable, it’s a) easy to buy a new cable in the event of a short or other wear (versus throwing the whole unit out when the battery dies or expands) and b) doesn’t tangle (which seems to be a lot of folks’ biggest concern).

- toastal 3y agoWho? The folks feeling forced to ‘convert’ because the phone cabal decided matching earbuds that require replacement in a year or two was more profitable? Prior to device manufacturers doing this trend, everyone I knew had wired headphones.

- thih9 3y agoWhat is the state of today’s folding phones, did the hardware improve over the first attempts? 1. Is the unfolded screen a continuous flat surface? (I.e. is the vertical bulge in the center gone?) 2. Are there gaps around the hinge or screen edge? Is the phone weatherproof? 3. Are there gaps when the phone is in the folded state?
- neals 3y agoI'm on the fold 3 for about 1.5 years I guess. The crease is no issue. I always compare it to reading a magazine; the page doesn't need to be flat to be good, and the screen of the food is nearly flat. You don't notice it. Phone has been rock solid no issue. Love it.
- thih9 3y agoI’m fine with the visual aspect for 90% use cases (reading text, browsing pages), but it feels like it could be annoying for large content (e.g. drawing, photo editing). The sensory aspect is another thing, it seems distracting to me to be getting this kind of physical feedback; I don’t like the durability risk either (I suspect this is an especially delicate area of the screen and it is raised too). In any case I appreciate the response, it’s exciting to hear that folding phones already work well for others.
- meindnoch 3y agoA saw one at a contractor recently. It had these disgusting "bubbles" in the central flexible area. Like a screen protector that has bubbles, but it was part of the screen; there was no screen protector on. - tuankiet65 3y agoI'm pretty confident that it's the screen protector peeling off around the crease area. The Z Flip / Fold comes with pre-installed screen protectors, and they kinda sucks - always peeling off after a few months. After replacing it once just to see it bubbling again, I decided to take it off entirely. I haven't seen any problems except that the screen now attracts scratches like crazy.
- pavlov 3y agoThese foldables are a great demonstration of why the screen diagonal is an unintuitive metric. This device has a 5.8” screen when folded, and a 7.6” screen when open. Looking at those numbers, it doesn’t sound like a very big difference. Yet anyone can see that the 7.6” screen is twice as big as the 5.8” one! The diagonal only made sense for TVs because the aspect ratio was fixed at 4:3 (and later 16:9). It shouldn’t be used for computer screens or phones.

- pavlov 3y agoYes, except in America where discussion of the metric system is banned in 48 states and therefore the unit of screen size measure is the stevethumb, defined as the area of the legendary thumbprint of Steve Jobs. Example usage: “Did you know the first iPhone’s screen was only nine stevethumbs? So tiny!”

- bheadmaster 3y agoThe "tiny hands" meme is really funny from European perspective. First of all, how do you know he has tiny hands? It isn't readily apparent in his videos. Second, why does it matter? It's not like he's a competitive slapper, he's a politician.
- sanitycheck 3y agoJust because he doesn't like people saying it, and that is sufficient reason for it to persist. Personally I think people should be talking about bigger things than his tiny hands.

- grumbel 3y agoI'll never understand why "thin" is still a standout feature of a phone when they add a fat ugly camera bump on it anyway. Why not make a thicker phone and the camera flush with the casing?

- maytc 3y agoSurprisingly, I found the flush makes the phone much easier to pick up from a flat surface like a table.
- IanCal 3y agoAlso I think stops the camera scratching as much. Flush means the whole thing lies flat on the table, a lump means an edge of it is on the table but the bit on the lens isn't. Recessed would fix that but adds even more size.

- bjackman 3y agoHot take: Samsung is the only firm that can produce these displays. They know most smartphone manufacturers just copy what they bring out. They know that folding displays are a pointless fad that offer consumers nothing. But it doesn't matter: if they bring out a foldable smartphone, all the other firms will do the same and throw Samsung a huge display production contract. Samsung wins either way. (To be clear I'm joking here, no idea if Samsung are even the ones making the displays)

- kybernetikos 3y agoWhat I don't like about these designs is that they have two screens, of which you'll only ever use one at a time. I preferred the designs of the devices that had the screen on the outside and wrapped around the outside of the hinge which also has the benefit of increasing the angle that the screen bends at. Oh and the price point feels very steep to me too, even as someone who has bought mainly from the top end in the past.
