Seems to me that in the short term everybody screams “DO NOT OPTIMIZE THAT CODE”, in the medium term everybody shrugs “buy a new computer”, and in the long term everybody gradually migrates to the solutions that optimized that code. I think

The CPU is 10-15% faster, that’s incremental in use even if it’s technically interesting. Lots of apps and websites only run smoothly on newer GPUs, too. You can play the “they’re dumb and I just won’t use them” game, but not everybody has

I agree with all of this. I’d add that it’s useful for sorting and searching. Things like keyword matching, from address, and from domain aren’t as consistent as you’d hope, but companies do need to actually email the address they were give

monkeytype.com is the gold standard here. Typing tests are a dime a dozen because you can make a bad one in 15 minutes, but Monkeytype seems to actually be made with care. Never tried typ.ing before but it seems better than the cheapo ones,

Think about users who don’t maximize the window, for whom centering to the screen, not viewport, would just be broken. It’s right to center to the viewport, and right that you’re able to turn that into centering to the screen by maximizing.
