They sold it under the condition he wouldn't lie, it was a condition for him to have it, and he lied

Yes but the original founders did that. Zuckerberg took it from them and immediately lied about data sharing, there's a reason why the founders left in disgust

The problem with Facebook's products always comes down to one overriding fact, Zuckerberg's desire to win over everybody else; he's constantly been accused of stealing from people, it's not a surprise everything he owns

Sure, network effects are hard to overcome; my point is that Zuckerberg bought it as a competition killing move so they're not likely to put any quality control into it

But why would anyone use Whatsapp after the Onavo stuff?

I think people are missing the point when they call Metaverse a 'misstep' because it implies Zuckerberg was a good actor who just happened to get this one thing wrong... if you look through his history of things like forced Whatsa

My first impression of this is literally "So, maybe a good idea, but isn't this Zuckerberg just copying yet another person like he's always done forever?"

The thing is, I wouldn't want to use Whatsapp considering how Facebook got it: spy on people with Onavo and then basically pressure the original founders out of the company, and then do stuff like https://news.ycombinator.co

And I bet if it was only Apple's iOS changes they would be fine, but that combined with Zuck's Metaverse obsession is dragging them under

But given his history of acquiring the product he has no right to talk; what he did is blatantly criminal

lol. Zuck, you spied on people with Onavo and kicked Acton and Koum out of the company, you have no moral standing whatsoever

Google has a lot of failures of their own but they seem at least semi-committed to an open internet (with actual ethical standards), something I can't exactly say for Zuckerberg

And yet Meta was involved with things like Free Basics, or forcing the Oculus account with a bait and switch, and repeatedly lying about Whatsapp - but I'm sure this Instagram thing is much worse, somehow

I'm seeing a few posts here that basically they have to do this because it's an ad service, it's for shareholders, etc. When are we going to blame Zuck and his unique brand of dishonesty and lying to everyone? They've mi

It's really simple. All Zuckerberg has to do is drop the "dominate everyone" facade. But I think he's incapable of doing that

They don't even care about their advertisers, they knowingly perpetrate click fraud (and lying about video metrics). They don't care. Because Zuck doesn't care, he has contempt for everybody, advertisers and users alike

I agree with you. For most people 'just don't use it' simply is not an option. We just have to hope Mark Zuckerberg gets removed or the proper regulation gets introduced to make the platform better

Only Mark Zuckerberg could possibly announce with a straight face (without apologizing for having made a Facebook login mandatory previously) this, as if he's doing us a favor. The man is a narcissist and megalomaniac
