Sure. Same here. I was writing js chat and realtime games back in '99. Don't get me wrong, SPDY is cool and good to see. But users won't notice any real difference. It's like when someone re-does a flash game in HTML5 and we (as geeks) go '

SPDY vs comet may be noticable if you're doing a real time game or something. But SPDY vs websocket should be the same. I'm just saying, it's not "wow you can now do X you couldn't before". It's "Oh they made X a bit faster"

Several affiliate networks explicitly allow you to use your own affiliate links. Also, if you're more concerned about it and want an easier way, use some reward/cashback program website.

For bonus points: Find the credit cards affiliate program. Sign up to it, and use it. You might get for example $50 commission, for signing up to a 0% credit card, if you use your affiliate link.

Not sure friendfeed ever got enough users to know scaling issues... Personally I would go with async DB, or have DB access in its own thread(s) and async communicate with that.

They don't need to. You search for X, they show adverts related to X. The extra targeting stuff probably increases their revenue a few %.

Just FWIW, I used Google+ for 2 weeks or so. Then I got bored and went back to Facebook. I think 90 days is certainly enough time to lose any early momentum you had.
