This is sort of like saying in response to an airplane crash, "who cares why it happened, we need to punish the company until it stops." Nuts to that. We should be interested in why things happen, not just finding scapegoats.

Also, it’s only true in the browser. Node and Deno have sync I/O. You still end up having to make a choice about whether your function should be async.

Generating AI images is something we couldn’t do before. AI assistants are better at web search than anything that came before.

There are many kinds of proxies. Proxies would have to be blocked if they don’t cooperate. Obviously a child-locked device shouldn’t let a client-side proxy be installed.

That standard is mostly used to indicate “adult” websites (porn, basically) which is useful, but rather a different thing than what I’m advocating. There are many websites intended for adults that should not be blocked when Google’s safe se

Websites that don't cooperate would need to be blocked by child-locked devices. That part wouldn't be any different from today.

Sure, the categories can be expanded. For example, movie ratings aren't just "children" and "adults." But explaining the simple case seemed like enough for one comment.

And yet, many people have ambitions. They will put up a website about how great their software is and how everyone should use it. I usually put a warning that it's experimental and might not be maintained. More users, more problems. (A

For software developers, the equivalent is writing software without beta testers. If you don’t seek out users, you will likely build something nobody else wants. And, that’s what I do. I’m retired and I use AI to build websites for myself.

This is almost right, but it shouldn’t be “is a child using the device?” It should be “is this a child-locked device?” There should be a children’s Internet, just like there are children’s libraries, and child-locked devices should give acc

API’s and coding standards help a bit. In one case, the AI was testing HTML-generating code with string assertions, so I had it write a test helper that makes a DOM-based testing API available and a skill telling it to write tests that way.

Assuming they pay their credit card bill themselves, it's effectively a volume discount for big spenders (though that "volume" goes to multiple vendors). The argument that the money "comes from" other customers is s

The mathematics research results are certainly impressive, but I don't see what that has to do with robotics. Waymo is getting somewhere, but it's been a long slog. There doesn't seem to be much progress on, say, package del

I certainly can't see what's coming. I believe that nobody really knows what's coming. Some people are overconfident.

Trends don't go on forever, but the market can stay irrational longer than you can stay solvent. There's no good rule of thumb for this, other than maybe the Lindy effect.

Uber isn't a good comparison. LLMs are a national or global market, not a local one. Also: already driverless.

Aware of what, though? We don't actually know OpenAI's profit margins on inference. Do we need to know? It's enough to know that the market is competitive and new models with better prices are released often. This means you s

Your cheap cynicism makes OpenAI's lower prices sound like a reason to avoid using them, but that's backwards! It's a better strategy to use them now while prices are low and switch later if necessary. Nobody knows who will h

Well, I suppose that explains monads. It’s one thing to see an analogy and quite another to make it the basis of an API.

I have a couple of skills with project-specific conventions for how to write a plan and how to write HTML-generating code. But they could probably just as well be .md files in a docs directory, linked to from the AGENTS.md file.

Though it has all the signs of being AI-generated, this looks like a pretty interesting project. But by itself, it seems sort of like a game engine without a game. Have you done something interesting with it?

They consider themselves to be in an arms race with all the other AI firms (including Chinese) that are not that far behind. And... are they wrong? This is why there's talk about negotiated "pacing."

You're insisting on a particular definition of a vague term. It makes sense now to say that temperature is what a thermometer measures. However, before there were good thermometers, people often thought that heat and cold were differen

Playing chess, writing code, finding security bugs, and proving mathematical theorems all seem fairly similar to thinking and don't seem much like being tall.
