I share this (in hindsight, hasn't happened in a while). I always assumed it was the saliva glands going into overdrive. I didn't think/realize it was limited to salty things, to me it was connected to things I really like.

There's a nice booklet called "experimenting with babies" which covers a lot of these in, well, babies and small children. The book is not as good as the title, but it may contain some oddities you're not aware of.

My understanding is that the Saudi are basically fighting the war in Yemen but denying it's them. The de jure government has effectively lost this war ATM.

I think the ones who got diminished did it for both idealistic and PR reasons. I mean, if you're France or the UK, you want to keep good relationships with Africa, and probably do feel some minor guilt about colonialism. This is a vote
