And not all renting out is rent seeking! On occasion in cities with decreasing home prices, the landlord is subsidising the tenant. That is rare though!

Do a Dell. Sell the laptop. Sell support. This is a win win for customer and business.

Yes I do for estimation. If I can calculate requests per minute in my head I saved time. Also in your analogy the calculator is the compiler :). AI would be someone telling you the numbers to use and you just trust em.

This sort if makes me want to learn Lisp. Maybe if every line packs a lot of punch and you need fewer of them, you can do things AI can't do yet. I think AI would struggle with Lisp since in Lisp, you engineer a language for the task.

I am on holiday now and want something similar. Get me from A to B but with a memorable heuristic that I can use if I leave at any time. E.g. "if you catch a 134 or 175 bus to Kings station then get the metro 3 stops to Cental station.

Oof! I'd rather be half way through fixing the problem while the customer first discovers it. Unless you have 1 customer who lives in the same time zone or something. I'd understand not wanring to be being woken up from a page for

It is crazy you need a seperate service for this :(. Why doesn't the original service treat no data as an alert as well as have a 99.999 slo?

I'd suggest a submission title change to "...cut networking software power use..." Not so sexy. But as a force multiplier that's still a lot of carbon probably.

What does primarily look like with the addition operation instead of multiply? 1,2,4,8,...? Or indeed just 1 alone lol! (Yes 1 is there because zero is the additive identity)

That is the first time I thought of 1 as being the product of [] Thay is enough justification for me of 1 not being prime. It has a factorisation!

Because you are human? We weren't meant to work 8 hrs a day from 9-5 based on a clock. If you are making money don't worry about it I'd say. Keep a good nest egg savings etc. Enjoy it. You deserve it and more time for your ch

Why is it crummy? Open source benefits big tech now. Especially for cloud based stuff. Only open source it if it fucks big tech. E.g. bittorrent or an alternative browser. Or an app on your local machine as a SaaS alternative.

At this point I'd include some of the code as binary blobs and "pay me for the source!". In addition to GPL!

Correct. What errors can happen PLUS how we communicate (and what we do: roll-back transaction? Etc.) PLUS how do we ensure correctness of both (sane programing language, good idioms, testing, proofs etc.)

Errors often come from the fact that we build on unreliable medium. Lost packets, high latency, crashed disks, out of memory etc. You can talk to your users sure but you need to handle this stuff at some level either way. Shit happens!
