If you like jshell, you should give jbang a try: https://www.jbang.dev/ . It allows you to write “scripts” in Java and you can easily use any 3rd party library.

You could always run something like Vim/Neovim directly in the container. I, personally, hope that JetBrains comes up with something similar which will allow devs to use the same workflow with the JetBrains IDEs.
