There's a big difference between a startup not managing and advertisers pushing billions of funding into creating this kind of thing. I very much agree with the author on this point.

The pipelines were useless to the russian goverment beforehand since they weren't sending any gas through it. It doesn't matter what the protesters wanted, Russia wasn't sending any gas. So there was never an "alternativ

Is anyone really surprised? I am not. Google has such a bad relationship to data privacy, they don't see the problem. Getting a warrant is so easy in the US right now, so there is very little reason to disrespect your customers privacy

Does it really matter wether Reddit makes backups? If it is interesting enough to save, it will be reposted or copied or whatever. If it isn't it will get lost in the mass of other "interesting" things.
