I highly recommend you try out Sqreen. https://www.sqreen.io/ It's basically newrelic for security. Takes 2m to add to your web app and it works super well. It blocked an attack automatically on our service recently!

Same here, I started to use them very early on and I keep doing it now. They are great everytime search or auto completion is needed, wherever it is.

Ahaha, speed is huge deal for e-commerce. It has already been proved enough by big merchants tests. Search relevance is too! The key is to have them both at the same time :)

Hmm, from my own experience - yes, there is alternative open search engines, and there are a lot actually. But did you ever try one on your own? Most of them are a nightmare to setup and are atrociously slow as soon as you get a few thousan

Thanks for the comments. Also, we decided to go that way to make it more practical. It doesn't change anything for the developer and can just provide more value in some case. Especially when using some weird clients.
