The purpose of learning is for my own education (and for a tangential benefit at work). I will be able to keep notes with me. Thankfully I am way past the point where I have to sit in examinations.

Have you read Siddhartha by Herman Hesse? I really recommend that book. Follow that up with ""What the Buddha taught" by Rahula Walpola.

Why? Because of side effects. The sexual side effects are terrible. I am sure it has contributed to my weight gain. I am not sure there are studies on what happens after decades on this drug.

I am glad that you brought this up. I tend to spend a good chunk of time cleaning up and optimizing my .emacs right before I start coding. Absolutely useless waste of time!
