If you wanted to write a quick on off script then using magic variables,etc made sense. Writing something you’ll keep? Don’t use those. When Perl 5 introduced references they could have simplified the syntax though.

I ignore ads, but do occasionally buy stuff from Facebook ads. For example, I ordered some guitar picks. I like that if I am interested I can look at the comments and get some immediate reviews and discussion about the product.

If you use some sort of ETL to copy data from your OLTP to data warehouse you might use this to stream data from your OLTP to Big Query so you can use Big Query as a data warehouse.
