This is a great idea - I love the maximise hills option :) It reminds me of one of our clubs TT routes which featured 1100M (3600ft) of climbing in 28miles , this would be great for generating some similar routes I reckon. https:/&#

Ti is difficult to weld - there are a lot of cracked Ti frames out there - often at the welds :( A shame as they (can) look great.

I don't think they ride Eau Rouge, but Spa is sometimes used for some elite level Cyclocross: https://www.velonews.com/news/cyclocross/gallery-spa-francor... The grass bank climb is incredibly steep.

I know that Castle Coombe has regular bicycle races - both criteriums and time trials. Pretty sure many of the circuits do, as its a good way to use the track and get some cash in, as they are often regulated in the number of motor races

Yes - very true. I race timetrials and keeping a stable aero position requires effort and practice but it's worth it as the gains from aero improvements can be huge.

There is also no mention of fit changes. Changes in crank length, saddle height, hip angles etc all can have quite considerable effects on efficiency

There are plenty of muscles there, they just are not shown on the simplified diagram. Transverse abdominus and obliques.

Another vote for deadlifting here. With a desk based day job and being a keen cyclist my posterior chain muscles were under-developed compared to my quads etc - deadlifting helped strengthen my glutes, hamstrings and lower back significant

Gates only quote between 95-98% efficiency. You can relatively easily get to 98% with conventional chains using wax and oversizing chainrings and sprockets and you don't need to worry about splitting your frame to replace them... This

There is a slow movement to using stack and reach for frame sizing, which are the two most critical measurements for bike fit.

I am not suggesting that all 23c tyres are cheap, but that tyre quality (which comes at a cost) as well as size has an important part to play in comfort. My 23c handmade FMB tubulars (definitely not cheap) are a much nicer ride than cheaper

Ride comfort (on a rigid bike) is primarily a function of the tyres (size/inflation/construction). A bike with cheap 23c tyres at 150psi will rattle the fillings out of your teeth. The same bike with decent 25c or 28c tyres at e.g

Expensive bikes aren't for leaving around - they are for riding/racing. It is common to have a "beater" bike for cafe/shop/pub outings where its going to be locked up outside.

Cars aren't always to blame. It's just that it starts from the presumption that the car is at fault - which is the case in approx 90% of cases in the UK (although the UK doesn't have this strict-liability unfortunately)

Yeah, no real need to worry about things like chromatic aberration etc, a cheap old manual focus telephoto would give similar results at much less cost. Something like an old Vivitar perhaps
