This is the correct answer. Most maids in SG live with their employers, and the employer has to feed them. Maids are typically from developing nations like the Philippines, Indonesia, Myanmar etc. 600 SGD goes a long way in those countries.

There is no way you'd pay more than 15%, or even 5%, in fees. Also, the idea is that you get Bitcoin before you need it. I agree with you that the on-ramp can be a pretty unpleasant experience.
