I knew the storyline I wanted roughly and used a lot of prompting and re-prompting and some editing to get what I was looking for. It was surprisingly hard to get GPT-4 to make the ending dark, the RLHF was very clearly steering it towards

Yes exactly — a lean, bootstrapped startup is a much "safer" bet, but also has much more limited upside potential. There are still a few unicorns out there that took that path, or switched to being VC backed later in the game!
