I should point out that the pifm code is a bit of a hack and does not properly reset the DMA controller when you stop running it. It will leave the FM signal active until you reset the pi.

What would the carbon tet even be used for? I can't think of a time when I ever used it during my chemisty degree, so for most things it could probably be replaced with another more sensible solvent.

It sounded like a bad description of drag soldering which involves dragging a ball of solder over the pins with the iron and relying on the solder mask and surface tension to make a good connection on each pin.
