Proton Global Outage
- windward 21d ago> Proton Pass >> Browser Extensions: Major Outage A nice reminder to keep passwords offline.
- lillesvin 21d agoDon't they keep a local copy like Bitwarden does?
- windward 21d agowho knows? https://i.imgur.com/PwobLhW.png https://i.imgur.com/PwobLhW.png (IDK if there's a more accessible alternative to imgur now)
- thoughtpalette 21d agoMobile app seems to work, browser app doesn't seem to work at all.
- DavideNL 21d agoThey do. In the web browser extension it's a setting called "Pass offline mode", and it's enabled by default.
- windward 20d agoIt's not default, you have to enter a password to enable it.
- DavideNL 20d agoAh, k. It's enabled by default in the Proton Pass App. But not in the browser extension apparently, assuming you are correct. https://proton.me/support/how-to-use-proton-pass-desktop-app#offline-mode https://proton.me/support/how-to-use-proton-pass-desktop-app...
- colordrops 21d agoJust as I was trying to get a 2fa email for a time-critical payment...
- abnercoimbre 21d agoI can't access anything right now. Blocked from my files in Proton Drive. No emails. Nothing. Can't work at all.
- abnercoimbre 21d agoUPDATE: "We have identified a critical cooling failure in our Frankfurt datacenter. We are currently in the process of shifting traffic to our backups sites."
- alexamelvin 21d agoInteresting, we just had a major outage with NameCheap by cause of cooling failures. Hmmmm... make you think.
- didacusc 21d agoIs it this? https://www.namecheap.com/status-updates/ongoing-temporary-technical-issues-with-namecheap-shared-servers-august-26-2026/ https://www.namecheap.com/status-updates/ongoing-temporary-t...
- lillesvin 21d agoLast thing I saw before my Proton Mail stopped responding was the "how are we doing?" survey modal, which I dismissed because I just wanted to get to my email. Hope it's nothing too bad.

- gradstudent 21d agoHow is it the browser extension doesn't have a local cache? It seems like basic functionality. I'm having to copy passwords by hand from the mobile app, which does have a local cache. Anyway, it's a good reminder: self-host all the things!
- bsoles 21d agoMine does. I am able to login to the browser extension with my password and see all my passwords. I think there was a setting to enable local caching somewhere.
- DavideNL 21d agoIt does have a local cache. It's a setting by the way called "Pass offline mode - enabled." And it's enabled by default.
- didacusc 21d agoStill down
- cmg 21d agohttps://status.proton.me/incidents/kzklhrdg6hxp https://status.proton.me/incidents/kzklhrdg6hxp for this particular incident.
- ghastmaster 21d agoI am curious how you found that URL? There is no link to it on their general status page.
- ghastmaster 21d agoFound it. Click on "Global Outage" In the orange top bar. Hard to find when there are three different colors for hyperlinks on one page.
- jshandling 21d agoWhy does a cooling failure in one datacenter brick the entire ecosystem? Reliability 101 to have redundancy here I'd think...
- jshandling 21d ago> We are currently in the process of shifting traffic to our backups sites Manually?!
- Geof25 21d agoI guess multiple datacenter hosting and automatic switch over should be the resulting solution of this incident
- hexagonsun 21d agoclick the words "global outage" on the main status page
- cyberpunk 21d agoI have to admit, this one has pissed me right off. I build systems that survive datacentre failures all the fucking time, it's inexcusable that a single site going dark removes access to something I pay like 200 euro a year for.
- jshandling 21d agoguess it's the same ol' reliability doesn't get prioritized until something like this happens story
- abnercoimbre 21d agoBack online for me ~2 hours later. Jesus.
- 21d ago
- AndrewKemendo 21d agoI’m paying for Proton enterprise and it is not demonstrating any value over the major providers as of late.
- jerbearito 15d agoSame issue today? Been down for a few hours. > We are currently dealing with residual hardware failures that are likely related to the damage suffered from the overheating incident last week. At the moment we are operating at a reduced capacity, while our engineers work to bring additional infrastructure online. We apologize for the unfortunate timing of this incident and any disruption or inconvenience this may have caused you. > Sep 01, 2026 - 16:42 CEST
