The Garlic Bread Hack
- jl7512 1y agoWe were talking about this last night at the hackernews london meetup! It sounds delicious!
- mmsc 1y agoIs this a bot? Three day creation date and the sentence of TFA is >Last night at a Hacker News meetup, I shared something
- Jtsummers 1y agoThe submission itself is three days old and the comment you replied to is from the same time. It looks like the submission came back through the second chance pool: https://news.ycombinator.com/pool https://news.ycombinator.com/pool If you hover over the timestamps ("1 hour ago") you'll see the actual submission date and time.
- thom 1y agoYes, but if less is more imagine how much more more would be.
- camel-cdr 1y agoCool idea. For the sake of being pedantic: > The whole bowl has fewer calories than two slices of garlic bread Really? Idk what the sizes are, but I looked up the weight of one of those micro wave popcorn packages, which usually fill the bowl we have at home. That seemed to be 100g, which is about ~350 kcal not including oil/butter. I'm getting about ~275 for 100g of bread, which is more than two slices. That's about 6 inches of baguette.
- ash_091 1y agoMaybe your bowl is bigger than OPs? Those microwavable bags generally contain multiple servings.
- kenshi 1y agoI should have included the following information in the blog post (will update it later!): I usually have: - 45g of air popped popcorn (64 calories). - 5 to 10g of butter (37 - 74 calories). - couple of garlic cloves (10 cals).
- senkora 1y ago> You don't actually want 300 calories of refined flour. Personally I always want this.
- nosioptar 1y agoThe only thing I want more than 300 calories of flour is 600 calories of flour.
- unsnap_biceps 1y agoWe make popcorn with https://www.kerrygoldusa.com/products/garlic-herb-butter/ https://www.kerrygoldusa.com/products/garlic-herb-butter/ and it's quite delicious, however, it doesn't quite hit the same as real garlic bread. The mouthfeel of the crispy toast is different than popcorn.
- roxolotl 1y agoA Reese’s peanut butter cup hack is peanut butter and chocolate chips in a cup. Eat it with a spoon.
- konfusinomicon 1y agoadd powdered sugar to got even closer
- mbac32768 1y agothis is amazing, dieting is easy
- e40 1y agoI was shocked that my continuous glucose monitor showed a huge spike for popcorn without butter. Last time I had it.
- xnx 1y agoCarbs like popcorn that dissolve in your mouth are very close to being cotton candy.
- gumboshoes 1y agoThis is also what I discovered. That a lot of what I like about beer and soft drinks is the carbonation, so having carbonated (calorie-free) water has similar satisfaction.
- yial 1y agoI’ve found this to work for me incredibly well. Even just “club soda” fulfills 90% of the “cravings” I might have for a beer or soft drink. The other 10% I am probably actually hungry and just not realizing it.
