Selling a Side Project

I am looking at selling a side-project for around $25-100k. Is anyone here experienced in doing something similar? The technology is quite valuable and would cost 3-4x that amount to build.

How much is the side project earning each month? People are going to want less cryptic and more practical information about The Thing, whatever it may be.

  Yep, revenue is what really matters. The technology is not really important at all - unless we are talking about a special hardware project, or biotech project. If anything, complex tech is a bad thing because the owner now has to learn more to maintain it

Agreed with @metadat, more information would be helpful. Simple rule of thumb is the most you could expect would be around 12x proven revenues or savings. A strong negotiator would probably force you down to around 6x - 8x range. The high costs to build could be a reason that it hasn't been done before. In most organizations, the business case upon project inception would have to show a significant gain from the cost of any project. Another concern would be that your current employer might lay claims upon the results of your side-project if The Thing is in a related area. Of course, that depends upon your employer and the jurisdictions you are operating within.

One reason to sell a side-project is the developer lacks effective marketing ability and is not making any money. Basing the value of a project on revenue, suggests such a project is worthless. Clearly that is not necessarily so. Relying on revenue to determine value is a cop-out avoiding the difficult task of envisioning the future. Unfortunately, people who can envision the future are hard to come by.

  It’s not a secret haha Tocky is a fully featured video conferencing software with the following features: - browser-based using WebRTC - supports up to 8K video resolution - all users in a room can simultaneously screen-share - optimized matching system for allocating users into breakout rooms so that matching is biased towards meeting new people - different modes for presentations, collaborative working, and matching - Google or email magic-link for authentication - share an event link for easy join
