I was kind of expecting it to be more. Not that I'd complain about an extra $114k right now. But after 40+ years I was thinking it would be more.

- xyzzy4 11y agoIf you invested $1/day on margin, and sell or buy more over time to maintain a debt/equity ratio, it would be a lot more.
- pmorici 11y ago$1 per day isn't much money as far as initial investments go. They are also using the S&P 500 which by it's nature is mostly mature companies that aren't typically going to see explosive price doubling growth.
- digikata 11y agoThe S&P 500 is also a much safer hands-off investment which is likely to beat most active investors - especially for the amounts of investment we're talking about for $1/day (or even $10-100/day...) http://www.npr.org/sections/money/2016/03/04/469247400/episode-688-brilliant-vs-boring http://www.npr.org/sections/money/2016/03/04/469247400/episo...
- mason55 11y agoYeah I thought this would be a dramatic example of compound interest. Instead my total matches about 3 months worth of principle for me nowadays.
- toado85 11y agoJust added dividends / dividend reinvestment. This makes a huge difference if you go back in the 70s and earlier.
- jack-r-abbit 11y agoHuge difference for me. Put it up at $273k. A bit more than double what it was.
