I know this is outside the topic, but to critique your analogy - you could spend a lifetime trying to make a better battery, and share the knowledge of 1000 ways to not make a better battery, which is useful in and of itself.

Thats exactly how I feel myself. I've learned all the social games and have a lot of friends, high levels of success both professionally and socially, but its extremely rare that I feel a real connection to the people I'm around.
