Element is a client, matrix is a protocol, synapse is a mainline backend server. There are other clients (front-ends) and servers available on top of the matrix protocol. Hope that helps.

Was this comment targeted at me or other commenters that are [flagged] or removed right now? Sincerely, I don’t understand, as it’s my comment you replied to. If that is targeted to me, I don’t understand which slurs are you talking about.

I second both statements. I used Pixelmator Pro on a Mac for maybe a decade (before it became Pro), and it’s very good. I would highly recommend it to anyone on a Mac. Long ago they had 50% discount, I don’t know whether they still do disco

Yeah, very good. They created a situation when you simply cannot trust them on any product they have. A calendar, do you use it today? What if they’ll kill it tomorrow?

15 years ago, that was Photoshop that kept me back. I switched to macOS a couple of years later. Now, I switched to Linux, ditching Photoshop. So far so good. I can stand the life without Photoshop, but tolerating macOS or Windows is above

What if you add your text back on white, but outside of your PDF bounds? Some software (I know Adobe Illustrator has it for sure) allow you to design it so, that the visible part would be one, and everything outside the bounds would be in t

FYI Libre Office can save files in docx, so you don’t have to pay for mediocre software. Google Docs also allows you to download the document in that format. So, you can even do the resume job from your mobile.

Tiling WM for me is the ability to use every app full-screened, with any key combination for accessing it. It’s so great on a laptop that I’m — a macOS user for over a decade — unwilling to use anything but a tiling WM on my laptop ever aga

I would add that if you truly want to distract yourself, ‘no notifications’ policy doesn’t work. You may just open your distraction and update it manually, expecting for the notification to arrive. Even when you set it to never bother you.

Seriously, HN? You want a dumb phone, go get yourself used iPhone X/SE or something, and never install anything, but only the essential stuff. Without all the gazillion of apps, it would work wonders even in 2024. You have issues with

I bought a second-hand office-grade PC recently, about a year ago. It was about $10 to $15, had no disks (obviously) and just 2 GB of DDR3 RAM. Also, an integrated GPU with some low-grade Intel CPU (Pentium, if I’m not wrong). Even the gene

Do you mind sharing more details for those who weren’t paying attention? I’m still on 10 years old generations with my home PCs and my laptop. And don’t feel the urge to upgrade anything yet. Hence, I’m not following the trends. The only th

When I moved to macOS back in 2011 (OS X back then), from Windows, I was shocked how much the OS pushes me to organise my digital world better than the mess I had in Windows. I never have piles of stuff in my digital life, it’s uncluttered

The issue with the businesses like that is that they can easily scam tech illiterate people. My mom paid $50 for a person who literally did nothing. She had some error with the motherboard asking to press F1 or something. He did that, did s
