Agreed, but it's really a short-term win. Long term, python will need to (and I think it will) get better statistical libraries, that make R so great. Statsmodels is a step in the right direction.

If you could find some way to model the price vs demand you could then figure out how elastic the price is ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Price_elasticity_of_demand ) then that would tell you which price is better.
