I think it’s a blind spot to a lot of people not just programmers. If you don’t have experience understanding and not just viewing you’ll almost always prefer the shinier object. I don’t really think this is particularly new even generative

If by most developers you mean individuals then sure. But Anthropic and OpenAI have gotten rid of the subscriptions for most, if not all, corporate contracts. So companies looking to give their employees access are paying api rates.

This is how all passive RFID works. It's pretty cool. There's even systems that are both passive and active. For example, as a Disney adult, I'm familiar with their magic bands which do have a battery but also work passively.
