As far as I can see there isn't a pattern in industry or funding company here. It may be the pressure is so widespread it doesn't emerge in a noticeable way or, more likely, it could be from inside the government.

I have created a script to run tree.io in docker with a lightweight (25MB) postgresql instance. Simply install Docker then run this script https://gist.github.com/funkotron/6025664

Thanks X4, I put over a year of hard work and a lot of my own money into Tree.io. I'm happy that it's used around the world by companies and universities even though I don't get any money from it.

Infrastructure costs. We had too many users on the free tier (5 users for free) and our server costs went through the roof. We didn't know how to find investment and my business partner needed cash so took a contract job.

For those who doesn't want to have their data in the hands of a third party it makes sense having everything in one system, and because it's open source you can easily extend it if need be.

Tree.io used to be called Hardtree and our company Giteso, we renamed both to Tree.io
