That can be said about just about any browser, such as IE, Firefox, etc. Too many features -> bloat + user confusion.

You claim they shipped a version without the stuff people loved, but Speed Dial was one of the most popular features in the old Opera. Speed Dial is one of the features that define Opera. Seems you don't quite represent most Opera user

It's not basically Chromium. It's using Chromium yes, but with a new interface.

They did keep it around, though. Opera 12 is still being maintained with security fixes.

No, they didn't skin Chromium. They made a new interface on Chromium.

Their core business was making browsers in general. Being small isn't that much of an advantage anymore. They can now sell something that works reasonably well on most modern hardware.

You should probably look a bit closer. It's quite different from Chrome with different features, etc.
