FizzBuzz isn't a coding test, I agree. It's an interview prep test. If a candidate can't take 15 minutes to read up on common interview questions and prepare a simple answer, then they shouldn't be hired.

Yes, but in a more holistic way than we normally use the word. Good programmers will minimize the time they spend over the lifetime of a project. This is why you don't optimize prematurely, to avoid wasting time when you already have a solu

Probably not. There are lots of virtual stock trading platforms out there (using actual, same-day prices), and they're easy to use... I played around with some when I was 10-12. Not sure of the benefit to making a kiddie version.

Hmm... I guess I was pretty whiny that day. After taking another commenter's advice, switching to Python let me get to the first "Hello, world!" tutorial in an hour rather than never.
