I always wonder about kids who skip too many grades or who get college degree at 12. Even if they are intellectually there, socially life would be a nightmare. Imagine being a 12 year old which 17 year old peers. I can't imagine the em

I agree with this. Most people need just 2 years during grade 11 and 12. Starting earlier might give minor edge at best but more damage to other aspects of personality and growth! In IIT, in under 1000 rank, most people who spent more than

I have had the same experience. I tried a BMW X7 and could never get a comfortable seat position. There were just too many controls. I only wish Tesla has thigh extension. Otherwise the seats are really comfortable.

I meant mongo support for sharing might be marketing fluff. As in they promise it works but it might be unreliable. I have come to trust Mongo with CRUD on a document. Rest of the features might not work as well. Looks at the recent Jespen

I am not sure what is the exact use case. They could be using it for a non-critical data warehouse which could easily be recreated. If you can deterministically determine your use case and are confident that mongo will fit it - it might be

I have been watching these threads forever. I personally like Mongo and wanted to added some real life perspective to it. In the end it is a tool which fits some scenarios.

You are correct. This was in the case of replica set. Are you running Mongo yourself. I use to be at MLab, but Mongo Atlas is really good. Give it a shot!

Thanks for raising this good point. I didn't get a chance to elaborate on this in my original post because it was getting too long and it was end of a long day. The cost of adding a column is zero, in terms of schema migration. So that

There were many questions asking about recent experience with MongoDB. I have some recent experience so wanted to share with everyone. My background: 2007-2010: Used MySQL to run a social network for 50M+ users. Would send 2B messages on pe

One problem with this is that it’s a combination keystroke involving two special keys and tab. That is bad for your fingers especially if it something like tab switch that you use a lot. With Cmd-[] you just use total two keys which are eas

Only reason I haven't moved to Firefox on my Mac is that I can't reassign keyboard shortcut for tab change (without using any external software). Firefox default is Cmd-Shift-[], which gives me pain in left hand if I use it too mu

I would not recommend this. Couple of issues: 1. You might want to visit your family in home country. How do you enter back. 2. CBP can put a border check point anywhere 100 miles from a border. Which covers most of California (land and sea

Updated the email on my profile. My approach is usually as follows: 1. Identify a real person in whose position I would want to be 10 years from now. 2. Figure out the path from that person to my current situation. Usually this involves fig

It’s not really insane. Many a times, there are skilled spouses who can’t get an H1 because of lottery or some other issue. My spouse had an illustrious career in India and did an MBA in US. She made a lot more than 350k per year and she wa

This was a good decision ref EB-5. Currently, if there is any crazy possibility, USCIS will reject your petition. EB-5 will take 2-3 years and you don't know how things will be then or even if the program will be around then. USCIS wil

This is bad advice. It is really risky to do this and you can be barred from US forever. Lawyers can give bad advice, and you need to triple-check non conventional advice. I used a lawyer who is really popular with YC companies. He gave me

I will write a bigger post later on. But whatever happens do not apply for I-485 till you get your I-140 approved. I did that mistake and had to leave US recently after my I-140 and I-485 got rejected. Once your I-485 is denied - you can&#x
