You make the argument from the consumer side, it's hard to argue, but digital systems are far more profitable. So that's how we got the world we got.

Technologists make the same mistake over and over in thinking the better technology will win. vhs vs betamax, etc. Actual consumers not only don't care, they will not even be aware of the difference.
