The main difference regarding today's "Social Sites" is they have money in the bank earned from advertising, etc. (Zynga over $1 billion, twitter over $600 million, facebook making over $1 billion per quarter, etc).

Steve Jobs said it best. They just don't have any taste and in a world where people will pay a premium where taste has been considered when products are being developed (apple, tesla, etc), companies like MS will be left in the dust.

Great points. Also allows him to learn, grow (both in business and to look for new opportunities), and adapt. Plus, its pretty easy to just "get a job". Creating a job or a business is much trickier. Kudos to your uncle!
