Cuda optimization actually doesn’t suck that much. I think NSight studio is amazing and super helpful for profiling and identifying bottlenecks in kernels

I definitely wouldn’t call vscode performant. The UI elements have noticeable latency and most things feel slow. Startup takes multiple seconds.

In general it’s impossible to trace the flow of an entire program due to the halting problem. Also most programs have a lot of branches and this would lead to an explosion of possible paths through the code to trace.

It is kind of a requirement. Scientific papers will typically describe the motivation for a work to start the introduction. The real motivation of course is “I need to publish something”.

I highly recommend compiling emacs from source with the option for native lisp compilation enabled. Emacs is way faster when you do this.

I skimmed through the tests in the benchmark and it seems like they’re testing based on throughput and I didn’t see any tests specifically to measure latency. It would have been really useful to see that.

Fun fact, you can plot variable values over time with gdb. You just have to create a gdb extension to do it: https://github.com/jyurkanin/gdb_extensions This blew my mind when I figured out how to make these extensions
