Sad news. She gave me a gmail invite after I begged for one on slashdot, seems like an eon ago. We corresponded off and on but unfortunately I was never able to meet her in real life. Rest in peace.

Even assuming you are correct on all these points ASLR is still an important use case and the effective security of current 64-bit address spaces is low.

Agree Raleigh and the general Triangle area is a good one. Maybe surprising for most here but Maryland and Virginia is like this as well. We're more expensive but you can get 1-3 acres within an hour commute of DC and/or Baltimore

Seems like the ultimate end-game here is to have mini-vms for every process using CPU-level ring protection. If you can't speculate across privilege levels, only inside them, it isn't a security problem anymore.

As of February Elon owns 22%. He and other board members/early investors are individuals so I don't see how it is weird to include them, though.

TSLA is approximately 66% owned by institutional investors(investment banks, funds of any sort(including active and index funds that may be in 401(k)s). That leaves ~30% of the shares controlled by individuals, which is fairly typical.

Most automakers do something similar now. Regular financing is so cheap now it almost always makes sense to get the cash back deals from the manufacturer rather than get the 0% financing.

And they chose to buyback stock and pay dividends, which means they think those other uses for their cash are unproductive relative to buying back the stock.

AAPL also has a dividend. From the point of view of shareholders, growth is better than dividends or buybacks.

Most interesting thing is that it is designed for long haul trucking. Can't want to hear how they are pulling that off, doesn't seem to be possible given current battery densities.

I wouldn't be surprised if a 2x or 3x more efficient boring machine is the ultimate product of this and it makes future infrastructure projects much cheaper as a result.

Somehow I think Elon Musk has made it through the middlebrow dismissal phase of this if the concept has made it this far(to include actual digging in SpaceX's parking lot even).
