calling it "Google's war" is an interesting take. No doubt they have added some hoops to jump through and reduced freedoms, but Apple has been leading the charge against installing arbitrary software for decades.

Yes, I recall that not all hardware was supported (or well supported) although it wasn't a huge problem and I was able to find drivers for everything I personally needed. Video drivers that supported the full capabilities of the card
