maybe you can split the task into its subtasks and forget about the task itself. Then you forget about the concept of subtasks and you are left with a bunch of tasks. now you can define dependencies between these tasks like you would normal

the wifi stack onthe esp8266 is a mess. it also does not support the latest espressif sdk. so you should buy an esp32 module and dont bother with this. ( the price is 3 bucks instead of 20)
