Good lord. Please use logic and Occam's Razor this. Muse is a platinum album winning band that's got 10 albums over 20 years. If this was stolen, they (and their label) would be raising hell.

Last year, I was recruiting a data scientist for a side project. I was referred to two DSes, albeit from academia, to help. Neither had their own personal laptop. One kept his laptop in the office all the time and just used an iPad at h

Good lord. Smart people doing the dumbest things with their work equipment. I have a former coworker who was the VP of Finance at my company. He suddenly got fired out of the blue. The company was in the midst of trying to find a buyer (

Lol. Maybe it was the environment I was in, then. I worked in a law office throughout high school. Half of the firm were Hastings who talked up the fortress that was Boalt Hall.

Coincidentally, I just checked law school rankings in CA. In my day (mid 90's), Boalt Hall was at the very top, and most kids were told don't even bother trying for it. Now it's not in the top 15 in the nation and latest US

Just a hunch, but I think Aaron Swartz would be disappointed. (Then you bring up Aaron Swartz and Obama's DOJ on reddit and it's massive downvotes calling you a MAGA nazi blah blah blah.)

I encourage anyone browsing through this to read that link. It gives insight on what many Westerners have no visibility into - how many Chinese view the Qing dynasty, which was romanticized by Spielberg's Last Emperor. More important

It’s commonly used in college sports where one school’s fan base argue for poaching a coach at another school. “Back up the Brinks truck” == throw money at him.

Irrelevant and not my point at all. The point was that OP was making a rage-bait statement. HN is supposed to be better than that.

> He was a republican. And Democrats were the party of slavery. Why do you bring this up? I'd think the Hackernews crowd would know history and wouldn't be surprised that on a long enough time line, philosophies change.

Stop calling them "National Treasures." That's hero worshipping. That's just sad.

No thanks. Social media needs less hero worship. Just RSS whoever you like.

This was so much fun, thank you. Question for you, and I guess also if you know why Airplanes.live doesn't do this - why not show the destination? I get that airplanes.live is primarily tracking and the source system, (ADS-B/MLAT?

I've always hated how Postgres merged users, groups, and roles. Users and roles are different in Maria and last I checked, all three are different in Oracle. I can see how Postgre's evolved that way out of history, when MySQL was

No, I mean you're trolling in that you basically read nothing about my original comment. 1) You give a response that doesn't meet half of my requirements. 2) You then give a suggestion that's is fundamentally what I said I di

Cameras need to connect somewhere, somehow to offload their videos/photos. Whether that's network, USB, SD card, those are all attack vectors. Hell, even the files themselves can act as payloads.

I did a code review for a really, let's just say "challenging", co-worker a few years ago. There was one block of code that was really obtuse and I couldn't figure out why it was there and what it did. So I asked him.
