f5less is cross-platform (being based on java7 fs watching feature) and cross-browser (because it uses websockets for reloading stuff). I Haven't checked livereload in a while so i don't know exactly how far they have come with the windows

I would suggest "Processing, a programming handbook for visual designers and artists" by Reas, Fry. It is a lovely book for visual designers with lots of (mostly short) snippets side by side to graphic outputs doing cool stuff, all organize
