My main issue with urllib is it requires too much boilerplate and it ends up being harder to read the code at a later date in my experience. In general I prefer the standard library, but it’s a bit of a toss up in this case.

A simple function call as a wrapper for a well optimized sql query just can’t be beat for performance. I have never understood why anybody would use an ORM, it’s usually as much work to learn and maintain them as SQL.

One thing I like about hand designing schema is it makes you sit down and make very clear choices about what your data is, how it interrelates, and how you’ll use it. You understand your own goals more clearly.

Again, that’s precisely what I’m saying. A bounded task is best executed against the smallest possible model at the greatest possible speed. This is true for business factors ($$$) as well as environmental (smaller model -> less carbon)
