It is odd that Apple doesn't chip in here... they've originated so much decent stuff in the OSS space. Seems like a huge missed opportunity.

Even SC4S, splunk's docker appliance for turnkey syslog uses rsyslogd. Edit: being pedantic -- it's syslog-ng actually.

The Silo series by Hugh Howey -- some excellent sci-fi to go along with the show The Red Rising series by Pierce Brown -- lots of sci-fi fun, extremely epic The Dark Tower series by Stephen King -- King's "Lord of the Rings"
