You aren't everyone else. You are you. Do what is best for you. I would also explore if there is a way to make the deal a better option for you. Negotiate. If you've explored that, and it's still not, then walk away.

Had similar experiences with DreamHost, the server load avg was 13!!! nearly all the time. For 20$/mo, I got a linode and have never looked back.

I would say upgrading my MBP to a solid-state drive has made the biggest positive impact on my performance, battery-life and startup time. Perhaps the best single computer upgrade I've ever done.
