In this sentence (You can add up to 6 people, but less is fine.), you should use the word "fewer" instead of "less". Fewer is for finite, less is for infinite. (fewer apples, less flour)

Work on something useful, something that has a goal. Beating your head against a problem for hours is the best way to learn something (because you learn all the ins and outs of that thing, not just the part you were working on).
