Another key difference -with an E3 there's no path to a green card. A number of friends have had to change to L1/H1 visas because of this limitation.

The Turkish change affected me over the weekend. The local mobile carriers didn't update their settings and thus my phone automatically updated to EEST. Fortunately my flight was much later in the day and it was rectified by that point

Wow, I would have to say that seems completely unreasonable, even if you were in the smallest of towns in NZ. I don't know of anyone (inc. students) who charge less than $40/hour for development freelancing.
