I enjoyed all of the prequel books. They have a more modern feel to them when compared to the classic Dune novels, so that's what may turn some people off.

I haven't heard of any webcams that work in iOS via the CCK - sorry! I'm not too familiar with how it all works, but I imagine it has a lot to do with the individual apps that are running to be able to read/write to the USB p

You can connect quite a few things via the Camera Connection Kit (CCK) which has a USB port in it. MIDI controllers and USB soundcards are two things I've used recently.
