Ethereum is easy to change (hard forks often) and so cannot be expected to preserve any key characteristics like emission curve or even the permissionless nature. In fact, Ethereum's monetary policy did change in the past.

I don't give a shit about Wired categorization. MobileCoin is a company. It has a fucking CEO. Cryptocurrency is by definition decentralized.

MobileCoin is not a cryptocurrency.

How about helping competition to beat FAANG network effects by deregulating everything? Increasingly, "more regulation" seems to be the go-to solution for any and all societal problems. There seem to be no free market capitalist

You seem to have a very US centric view. There are other 7.5 billion people in the World.

"Temporarily" like a f**cking YEAR. Some business owners committed suicide over this, so I guess its safe to say permanent for them at least.

"Temporary"? It's been A YEAR and tens of thousands of businesses and families going bankrupt. And there is no end in sight to this.

Please help me understand. Say Monica runs a clothing shop and sells clothes (including face masks and sun glasses) to people she suspects are drug dealers. And we are not talking a single pair of sun glasses - she is running the clothing s

> That will deter 99% of the potential users from ever trying it out. Nah, we had this kind of ban on western fiat currencies in communist Poland. And guess what, illegal p2p trading of USD worked just fine.

This will get you nowhere. Already, Monero successfully employs general CPU-s for its PoW. Bitcoin could switch to another PoW algorithm if critically necessary. Decentralized cryptocurrencies are beautiful hydras.

You are right in the short term. Most governments will fiercely fight Bitcoin and all true cryptocurrencies. In the long term though, it is inevitable, like all technological progress in the World. You can only contain it for so long.

You are absolutely right but it gets even worse. The KYC bullshit is on the brink to spill over to non financial services, like messaging apps, hosting, email, and what not.

Agree, we did similar with Elixir/Phoenix in my past company. Obviously, the services will still be necessary where Elixir simply isn't the right tool for the job like machine learning or cryptocurrency.

Cardano is still being ran by the company/foundation behind it. It is yet to transition to actual PoS.

So far Bitcoin mining is getting increasingly decentralized in practice - from China to Iran to US to Venezuela.

No, they are not better, because they are easy to change , and so it is easy to change monetary policy "for better", or make the coin "more compliant". Bitcoin value is that it is extremely hard to change , especially

XMR is great but no, it does not have Bitcoin core devs developing for it. And no, nullc did not implement bulletproofs for Monero. Maybe you meant nullc designed confidential transactions. A modified variant of CT was then implemented inde

Because PoS effectively means a handful of exchanges run the coin. This is far worse than a handful of mining pools, because pools depend on many more individual hash power providers.

No, if Bitcoin was PoS, Mt Gox would bail themselves out and govern Bitcoin to this day. Early on, Mt Gox was responsible for over 80% of all economic activity on the Bitcoin network, and was by far the dominant holder of coins.

I left Plausible for GoatCounter. It is better designed privacy-wise and much easier to self host (a single statically build binary, no dependencies): https://goatcounter.com/
