Speaking from experience... Degrees are not at all required in software engineering. Passion & skill are sought after in early career developers, and years of experience will suffice in more advanced engineers.

I don't see any conflict here. Idempotency is not a silver bullet and cannot fully replace state tracking, but it adds simplicity where appropriate.

Ive never heard that said by altman/graham, but i highly (highly) recommend working a few years before starting your own company. Otherwise you won't have the context or the understanding to deal with issues as they come up. Frank
