If you don't use uBlock Origin, you can also pihole or otherwise block the domain accounts.google.com. This is surprisingly non-destructive to active Google sessions, though you can't create new ones with it blocked.

Some spam is just thrown away, not put into your Spam folder, so there's some lost opportunity to disagree (and it's hard to judge whether you would have without seeing the spam). Also, GMail is no longer good at detecting spam.

LA is a stranger place than it seems if you haven’t lived elsewhere as an adult. SV is definitely not the only better place, though the candidates may be similarly expensive due to the density you need (Boston, NYC, etc.).

I wouldn’t go that far. Often there’s a bigger and/or better community elsewhere, but the Reddit one is also passable because so many people are on Reddit.

I think the point isn’t that you (or Cory Doctorow) has to use ublock to prevent fraud, only that one would expect such users to block ads qua ads and accidentally benefit from the fraud protection.
