In my 30± year career I can confidently say that Software Engineers look towards standardisation by default as it makes their lives easier. It feels to me that you're bitter or had more than one bad experience. Perhaps you keep working

There are numerous games stores I can install on my PC or Mac. There are numerous games stores that game developers can use to sell their game through. Steam do not have a monopoly on the devices it runs on. Apple do.
