The Median houshold in SF has a rent controlled apartment and no kids (roughly 70% or more is rent controlled). If that's not you, you will have hard time.

it all depends on your situation. Sure, as a single person 200K is doing well. But, 200K with a family of 4 (2 kids and a wife) is definately scraping by on the penninsula or SF. The only way that's not scraping by is if you bought

New languages aren't popping up (and taking over) every 5 years like they used to. The rate of change is slowing. At this point, I think it's fine to settle down with a language, as the entrenched positions of the top languages

Cost of living is much higher in blue states, unfortanetly. It's a outcome of higher regulation which customers end up paying for. Higher cost of living in terms of Shelter cost, Utilities and generally higher taxes.
