I mitigated this by storing username in the gpg file itself using the 'user:' tag, while having the file named jdoe or something similar instead of a login name.

To me, the show stopper was web pages blinking white when reloading or opening a new tab. And no real way to fix that, except to change the global CSS, which messes up some websites that doesn't set background-color, etc. etc.
