I mostly agree but I find modern software algorithms with "automatic" adjustment on the RAW tend to do a good job for the stuff I'm happy to have a lower quality JPEG anyway. It allows me to spend less time adjusting setting

I did the same. After 2 semesters of CS, I switched to Physics. I still work as a software engineer, but paying to not learn anything is a waste of time. Physics is much more interesting in academia.
