Marathon runners, climbers, etc you mentioned have a pretty narrow field of physical competence. No way in hell a climber can compare athletically to LeBron James.

I've heard some variant of this idea a thousand times and it doesn't work. Also, slightly ironic/depressing to react to an article about systemic loneliness in the tech age with "maybe we can make an app for that".

Create a landing page, put it up on forums like hackernews, reddit, quora and see what kind of conversion rate you get for the concept alone. Talk to people.
